Mid-Year Book Freakout Tag!

I saw this tag floating around the booktubes and book blogs. I liked the questions being asked so I thought that I would give it a try for my first book tag! I believe that this tag was made by Chami and Ely at ABookSoFathomless. So Here it goes!

1. Best book you’ve read so far in 2015.

This question is so hard. How could I possible pick only one? For my answer, I would have to cheat a little bit and go with The Grisha trilogy by Leigh Bardugo, The Dream Thieves by Maggie Stiefvater, and Gathering Darkness by Morgan Rhodes. All of these books made me feel very strong feelings.

2. Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2015.

I’m going to go with The Winner’s Crime by Marie Rutkoski.  We get to read more about Kestrel and her situation with things. Once again, Marie Rutkoski’s writing was beautiful and amazing. THE ENDING HURT SO GOOD. I need the next book as soon as possible.

3. New release you haven’t read yet, but want to.

The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Adieh is my top priority read as of right now. Ever since I’ve heard the synopsis at the beginning of the year, I knew that I had to read it as soon as possible. A king takes a new bride every night, only to kill them at sunrise. Our main character VOLUNTEERS to become his bride and hopes to kill him as revenge for him killing her best friend. Like, come on. This book sounds amazing! I have heard nothing but good things from people who have read this book.

4. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year.

My most anticipated release is The Rose Society by Marie Lu. After the events of the first book, I need to know how Adelina will go about her way. I don’t want to say too much because that would spoil The Young Elites. Maybe I’ll cheat a bit more and add Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo to my answer. After the Grisha trilogy, I needed something more in the Grisha world. When I heard about the new series that will take place in the same world, I was ecstatic. The waiting game for new releases is always a hard one.

5. Biggest disappointment.

A Little Something Different by Sandy Hall is my biggest disappointment this first half of the year. The premise of the book sounded interesting to me; it is the love story between two people that is told in multiple perspectives other than the two main characters. Everyone else around them can see that they’re in love except for the couple. It sounded different, something that I’ve never read before.  The execution was not as up to my expectations. But don’t let my thoughts hinder you  or anything if you are interested in reading this book. Do give it a try! It just wasn’t the book for me.

6. Biggest surprise.

The Kiss of Deception by Mary E Pearson. The guessing game between who the Prince and the Assassin is kept me on edge. There were so many times where I thought I knew who was who, only to be confused two chapters later. This story rolls out in its own pace and I love it. I am so excited to read the sequel.

7. Favourite new author. (Debut or new to you)

After marathoning the Falling Kingdoms series, Morgan Rhodes has become a favourite of mine. Her writing style is so fast paced and her books are so great. I will need to read her new book while waiting for Frozen Tides to come out.

8. Newest fictional crush.

This question is so hard to pick just one person. My top person would be John Ambrose McClaren from P.S I Still Love You by Jenny Han. He is so darn adorable. But Nikolai, The Darkling, Captain Thorne, and Magnus all follow behind him.

9. Newest favourite character.

Cleo Bellos from the Falling Kingdoms series by Morgan Rhodes. She falls into my list of favourite badass females. To me, she shows that she doesn’t need to be the best fighter in order to be “badass”, kind of like Kestrel from The Winner’s Trilogy by Marie Rutkowski. She is strong willed, smart, manipulative, and knows what she wants. Cleo is one of my new faves.

10. Book that made you cry.

Of Mice and Men by George Steinbeck. This book had me tearing up so hard by the end of the book and I don’t usually cry. I don’t know what it was but something about the characters made me so sad. I read this book for my school novel study portion of English and yeah. I’m so glad to have finished this book at home rather than at school because I would have been sobbing so hard in front of all of the people I know.

11. Book that made you happy.

Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour made me incredibly happy. It is a book that I still think about to this day. I love how involved I felt reading with all of the pictures, receipts, and playlists included in the book. This book showed me that sometimes you need to take the detours in life and enjoy the adventure to your destination; it’s not about taking the quickest route to the places you need to be in. I absolutely loved this book. Bless you, Morgan Matson!

12. Favourite book to film adaptation you saw this year.

I don’t really have a favourite book to movie adaptation this year because the only book to movies that I watched were Insurgent, and 50 Shades. I was not a fan of either of them. But, if we’re talking about a COMIC book to movie adaptation then hands down I would say Guardians of the Galaxy. Maybe I’m bending the rules a little bit, but this movie was amazing. One of my favourites for sure! The soundtrack is the absolute bomb as well. Highly recommend this movie to everyone.

13. Favourite review you’ve written this year.

Well, considering the fact that I’ve just started this blog and only have 2 reviews up, I guess that I don’t have much of a choice in my pool of reviews. I would say that I like my Rebel Spring review better? Haha I don’t even know. Here is the review if you haven’t already seen it.

14. Most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year (or received).

I really like the covers of the To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before duology by Jenny Han. I love the look of the Sharpie titles on the front and the cute backgrounds. They’re totally my style. I also received The Heir by Kiera Cass from my cousin as a graduation gift (Along with Crown of Midnight by Sarah J Maas, I might add). The dress, colours, lights, and everything on the cover make it so appealing.

15. What books do you need to read by the end of the year?

To finally end the Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy, I absolutely need to finish Dreams of Gods and Monsters by Laini Taylor. I have put this book off long enough. I read the second book back in November and have tried to read the last one but it never felt right whenever I started the book. I need to conclude this wonderful, magical series.

Awesome list! Will definitely look into doing it, thanks for the tag.

I think you will love The Wrath and The Dawn, the romance is so great. I really need to read The Dream Thieves though it will probably require me to reread Raven Boys. And I am so sorry to hear A Little Something Different didn’t work for you– I was so intrigued by that one because of the way it’s written – guess I’ll skip it then haha!

I love the covers for To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before… it’s something about the marker font on it! And I totally agree that Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour is just so nice to read. It’s an amazing book. Anyways, great picks!
